John Cook auf der Berlinale

Das Internationale Forum des Jungen Films und das Österreichische Filmmuseum präsentieren heuer auf der Berlinale ein Spezialprogramm mit zwei österreichischen Filmen, die vom Filmmuseum restauriert wurden: Langsamer Sommer (1974-76) und Schwitzkasten (1978) - zwei Hauptwerke von John Cook (1935-2001), der Wiener „One-man-Version“ der Nouvelle vague und Zentralfigur im österreichischen Kino der 1970er Jahre. Das Filmmuseum hat in den vergangenen Jahren drei seiner Filme restauriert, eine Publikation über Cook herausgebracht und zuletzt eine Doppel-DVD mit seinen Filmen veröffentlicht.

 

At this year's Berlinale, the International Forum in collaboration with the Austrian Film Museum will present a special program featuring two films restored by the Film Museum: Langsamer Sommer (Slow Summer, 1974-76) and  Schwitzkasten (Clinch, 1978) - two central works by Austro-Canadian filmmaker John Cook (1935-2001). Cook played a central role within the burgeoning New Austrian Cinema of the 1970s and is often considered a Viennese ‘One-man version’ of the European New Waves of that era. His film Schwitzkasten (Clinch) was originally presented at the Berlin Forum in 1979. During the past three years the Austrian Film Museum has restored three of Cook’s films and edited a book on his life and work, including his unpublished autobiography. In 2008, the Edition Filmmuseum published a Double DVD with both Langsamer Sommer and Schwitzkasten.
