Raw Stuff (2): Shot on 8mm & Super 8
April 27 to 30, 2005
To round off the underlying theme of this year’s Film Museum program – How does film historiography work? – we are launching a new series entitled "Raw Stuff". The series will be continued at irregular intervals until 2006 and is curated by Dietmar Schwärzler and Sylvia Szely. Starting off with famous names and iconic filmmakers, the series makes a case for renewed recognition of "small forms". In other words: „marginal“ formats like short features and documentaries, Super-8, commercials and industry films, music and art videos.
The first stage in this series will present variations on French and German cinema of the 1960's: early works by Truffaut & Godard, Agnès Varda, Chantal Akerman, Marguerite Duras, Alain Resnais & Chris Marker, Jean Rouch, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Alexander Kluge, Rosa von Praunheim et al. The programme is an invitation to view these „greats“ of film history as if they had yet to create their great and well-known works.
