CINEMINI
The Austrian Film Museum was a project partner in CINEMINI EUROPE, which was fully funded by Creative Europe in 2018 and 2020 and was devoted to developing film education for children ages 3 to 6.The project began with the realization that in the European film education landscape, there is a painful lack of formats for this age group and with our desire to experience films together with children in of these ages, to get to know their perspectives and opinions, to learn how they formulate encounters with film, and to research how we can enable such encounters.
Under the leadership of the EYE Film Institute (Amsterdam) and in collaboration with the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum (Frankfurt), Taartrovers Children's Film Festival (Amsterdam), the Kinodvor arthouse cinema (Ljubljana), and the Austria Film Museum, the project's first two years saw the creation of a catalogue of 26 films, educational formats for these films for different contexts (cinemas, kindergartens), additional educational materials, activity cards for children, and playable installations.
In the project's second phase (2021 and 2022), the focus was on the consolidation of existing activities, the introduction of new partners, and the expansion of the project and its results. Under the DFF's leadership, the previous collaborators EYE, Taartrovers, and the Austrian Film Museum were working with new partners from Estonia (BFM – Baltic Film, Media and Arts School, Tallinn), Portugal (Serralves, Porto), and Switzerland (Roadmovie) as well as the ECFA (European Children's Film Association) and Lemonade Films (Vienna). Three new films were added to the catalogue, a new installation is being created, and new educational formats were being developed and tested in kindergartens. Branching off from these activities, our project team has been developing workshops for those interested in the fields of cultural promotion, film festivals, and elementary education to spread the word about CINEMINI and further develop and discuss it with input from many sides. Short film programs for film festivals have also been developed using the film catalogue.
You can find the findings of the project, further information, and materials such as additional educational materials and activity cards for children on our project website.
