Gustav Deutsch's Pocket Cinema
The Art of Repetition
99 small projectors are handed out and become a glimmering, humming and haptic cinema experience. Gustav Deutsch's Pocket cinema seems simple at first but brings us back to the basic building blocks of cinema. The short films that each child can watch for him- or herself make up a sensual catalogue of cinematic movement that can be discovered bit by bit in the course of an hour. By passing on the small projector to your neighbour and receiving a new one cinema as an experience of community becomes visible while the endless loops in the viewers make us aware of repetition, in life as well as in cinema.
