Sonne (Sun)
AT 2022
Yesmin, Nati and Bella are friends living in Vienna. Their friendship is put to the test when a video of them dancing to pop music in their hijabs goes viral. While conflicts about headscarves and her Kurdish background have long been a part of everyday life for Yesmin, the only one in the group who is herself Muslim, Nati and Bella are overwhelmed with fascination for an unfamiliar world. Sun offers a glimpse into the everyday reality of teenagers struggling with self-discovery and the wish to fit in, questioning how young people define their own identities in an increasingly networked world and navigate their life between different cultural influences.
